themes of wilde's poetry
An overarching theme in the poet’s work is social satire where Wilde critiques social issues like the relation and rapport of the sexes or the social conventions of love. An example of this theme in his poetry is the poem Flower Of Love but a greater example of this theme is in his well known play The Importance of Being Earnest. Wilde pocked fun at how ridiculous societies views on love were as well as showed how strict society was with relationships between and within genders. Wilde often wrote with the influence of this theme because of his relationship to it. Oscar Wilde is considered literature most famous homosexual meaning the issues of societies strict views, at the time, effected him greatly. He expressed his disagreement with society in a joking way through his work.
